FIU has the highest Carnegie Research Classification, “Research I: Highest Research Activity.” The reputation of a research university is based in large part by the quality of its graduate faculty. However, graduate students are also key contributors to the University’s reputation and active contributors to the University’s intellectual and creative environment. BSI provides academic mentorship for undergraduate, doctoral and postdoctoral students and fosters the growth of the Biochemistry Doctoral Program. The valuable research training allows the graduate students in the Ph.D. programs to develop into independent scientists, and provide the undergraduates with valuable research experience that can prepare them for their future career choice. Scientific research and applications require team efforts, and our students need to be trained to work in such collaborative environments.
